• founded in 1981 as a centre for inhouse production and development of hybrid integrated circuits and electro optical components for the demands of the company Carl Zeiss Jena
• 1990 – service centre of the company JENOPTIK GmbH, - development and production of components for inhouse demands and the open market
• from 1992 specialisation on electro optical components with the main target on UV-detectors based on silicon carbide (SiC)
• 1995 - JENOPTIK hands over the department to ifw GmbH
• 15/2/2009 outsourcing of ifw optronics GmbH as a 100% daughter of Günter-Köhler-Institut für Fügetechnik und Werkstoffprüfung GmbH
